The Marine Protected Area of Tavolara - Punta Coda Cavallo was set up to achieve the objectives clearly defined, specified by Law No 979, 31.12.1982.

Each action plan of the Consortium of Management is designed to achieve the following goals:

A. the protection of the marine environment;

B. the protection and exploitation of biological resources and geomorphological the area;

C. the spread and dissemination of knowledge of ecology and biology of marine environments and coastal marine protected the natural and unique environmental characteristics and geomorphological the area;

D. carrying out educational programmes for the improvement of general education in the field of ecology and marine biology;

E. carrying out programmes of study and scientific research in the fields of ecology, marine biology and environmental protection, to ensure the systematic knowledge of the site; 

F. the promotion of a socio-economic development compatible with the relevance-naturalistic landscape of the area, also favouring traditional local activities already present.
